What is a wallet address and how do I get one?

A wallet address is a unique string of characters that identifies your cryptocurrency wallet — similar to a bank account number. You need one to receive crypto from an exchange. Popular wallet options include Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and MetaMask.

How to Get a Wallet Address

  • Download a wallet app — Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, or MetaMask are popular and free options.
  • Create your wallet — Follow the setup instructions and securely save your recovery phrase.
  • Find your receive address — Open the wallet, select the cryptocurrency you want to receive, and tap "Receive" to see your address.
  • Copy and paste — Always copy-paste your address. Never type it manually to avoid errors.

Important Notes

Each cryptocurrency has its own address format. Make sure you're using the correct address for the coin you're receiving. Sending Bitcoin to an Ethereum address, for example, will result in loss of funds.
